Ideas for fun & natural wedding photos

Your wedding photos are so important - you want to look back at these images with happiness and joy for the rest of our lives - and that’s a mighty long time!

No matter what kind of wedding you’re going for - formal, traditional, modern, laid back - you can always choose to have some fun with your wedding photographer and capture some unusual images of you and your new husband/wife whilst in your finest!

Beautiful backdrops can make a great canvas for something quirky and different. And whilst there is a time for posed wedding photos, we also love more natural shots of brides and grooms on their wedding day.

We all know that the first look photos and the confetti photos are going to be awesome… but here we discuss some ideas for different, fun and natural wedding photos…

Use props

You can never go wrong with using props in your wedding photos to create some unusual shots. Something as simple as matching love heart sunglasses could be really cute.

Matching umbrellas or parasols can also be fun - and of course they double up as sun or rain protection!

Have you thought about having something made specifically for your wedding photos? We love the idea of having custom leather or denim jackets made for the happy couple like this. Could be a nice surprise on the day for your other half?

If you happen to have a pool at your venue, then how about you go BIGGER with your props - use floaties like an engagement ring or pink flamingo for extra silliness!

Chat to your photographer to see if they have any ideas about cool props to include - a good photographer should love this question! See our blog here about finding the perfect wedding photographer for you.

Get signs made

You could get some signs made for your wedding photos that reflect the tone and style of your wedding. This could be a classic Just Married sign for you to hold or a personalized sign for you to pose with. This could be “Mr & Mrs Smith” or “The Smiths” and would double up as some nice signage throughout the wedding day too.

Use your venue

Go back to your wedding venue in advance and suss out any fun spots or unique focal points that you might have missed before. Chat to your venue manager about what couples have done in the past.

Some shots will be really obvious - glass of wine in a vineyard, posing under a floral archway etc but there may be a really cool location you haven’t thought of yet!

Photos taken by your guests

One of the best ways to get natural wedding photos is to use the shots taken by your guests during the day and night. Seeing how the day panned out from their point of view can be awesome. Never Miss Moments allows you to do this with such ease - a simple online wedding gallery means that all your guests' photos get uploaded via a QR code to your private online folder for you to enjoy.

Just be prepared to see more genuine laughter than posed photos!

Transport

How about getting some cool transport to work into your wedding photos? We’ve all seen those images of beautiful brides and grooms stepping out of a classic car or even a horse drawn carriage… but what about if you got scooters, old fashioned push bikes or mopeds for a few shots?

Street Style Vibes

If you are having a city wedding you should try to make the most of the urban backdrop, check out interesting buildings, posters, street art or graffiti that might be easy to access on the day.

Champagne, darling!

Toasting each other with a glass of champagne is nothing new - but have you considered creating a champagne tower? The newly weds pour a bottle of champagne at the top and down it falls into the other glasses like a classy kind of waterfall!

Note - I have seen this go wrong, where the top glass actually fell and smashed most of the other glasses on it’s way down - but this made for some hilarious reaction shots!

You could of course shake up a bottle of bubbly and leave it to pop…. Maybe one for later on in your wedding day in case you get soaked - but lots of fun.

Animals

Some couples simply have to have their pets included on their wedding day - we get that. Many venues recognise the importance of allowing your dog to be part of your wedding celebration which is awesome.

And of course we encourage getting them a wedding outfit for the occasion!

Smoke Bombs

We LOVE the trend of having smoke bombs or smoke flares in your wedding photos. They inject a huge amount  of color and can look really striking - either with just the married couple, or the entire bridal party. Make sure you talk to your venue before ordering them, and it’s a good idea to have a practice before the wedding day - be warned, they can produce A LOT of smoke!

Your Squad

Whether you’re having a big or small wedding, this is a unique and special day where all your favorite people are in one place - so take advantage of this!

How can you make the group shots more fun? The groomsmen carrying the bride - always a good one. But how about the bridesmaids carrying the groom?

Could you recreate a favorite movie poster? Yes I’m thinking Kristen Wiig in Bridesmaids!

Sparklers

Sparkler send-offs are a brilliant way to showcase the evening of your wedding day and mark the end your very special day. Have all your guests take a sparkler and create a tunnel for the newlyweds to walk through - again, talk to your photographer about the best way to do this. The results will be gorgeous!

Outtakes

Tell your photographer that you’d like to see the outtakes of any group shots or silly moments you have created - sometimes these can be really special and even funnier!

Conclusion

We hope this has given you some inspiration on how to create some really fun and natural photos at your wedding.
